About UsTokyotecture is more than just a tour company. We aim to shed light on the ways that Japanese architects and designers have shaped the built environment. Our approach is to immerse visitors in Japanese culture to gain an appreciation for the structures not just as they are physically but also their representation in the larger story of Japan.
We want to make sure that our clients understand who the architects are and what makes them tick. We answer questions like, what is the essential aspect of each architect or firm that sets them apart from the rest? And why did the architect take this design approach? |
Who We Are
Masters City Planning
|
Mike is the founder and CEO of Tokyotecture. He's been immersed in Japanese culture for the past 8 years. Mike has a Masters in City Planning with a specialization in Urban Design from Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia. At tech he studied the notion of "nature in the city" through the lens of Japanese values towards nature.
His interests in Japan range from Architecture to Bullet Trains. He's also a big fan of Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli Films. You may just get to see a few clips from Ghibli Films on his walks. Mike has lived in Tokyo since early 2014 and has fallen for the city. Now Mike is not only working on building Tokyotecture, but also he is working on a book that explores the interaction between design and public life. What he learns, he passes on to his Tokyotecture clients. |
